Colorado School of Mines – Energy and Minerals Research Facility
Scope:
Colorado School of Mines and the U.S. Geological Survey shared the Energy and Minerals Research Facility, with laboratory utilities and exhaust central to the building’s needs. The approximately 190,000 to 192,000 square foot facility included laboratories, faculty and research spaces, classrooms, and collaboration areas. Laboratory utility and exhaust requirements were central to the building’s engineering needs. For laboratories, equipment rooms, preparation areas, and research support spaces, the design considered ventilation and temperature control, power and lighting, and the utility connections needed for daily use. Layouts accounted for the different demands of occupied rooms, equipment areas, and support functions.
