Scope:
The CoorsTek Center brought several scientific disciplines together in approximately 95,000 square feet of research, teaching, and collaboration space. The approximately 95,000 square foot CoorsTek Center at Colorado School of Mines brought teaching, research, and collaboration spaces together in an applied science and engineering building. Flexible laboratories served chemistry, geochemistry, chemical and biological engineering, metallurgy, materials science, physics, and nuclear science. The project required building systems suited to a range of laboratory uses. For lecture rooms, teaching spaces, faculty offices, and shared student areas, the design considered ventilation and temperature control, power and lighting, and the utility connections needed for daily use. Layouts accounted for the different demands of occupied rooms, equipment areas, and support functions.
